CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of San Benito County is looking for adult volunteers interested in becoming advocates for foster children from the community.

What is CASA?

CASA is a nonprofit organization serving foster children From San Benito County. Our mission is to train and support community volunteers who advocate for abused or neglected children placed in foster care by upholding their rights while pursuing a safe and permanent home.

What does a CASA advocate do?

CASA advocates directly impact foster children’s success in life by engaging in positive relationships, increasing their life skills to reach their full potential, and addressing their academic achievement, as well as their physical and emotional well-being. The CASA advocate is the one consistent adult working strictly for the child. Advocates maintain their focus on the best interest of the child. They work collaboratively with assigned professionals, school, foster parents and relatives. They monitor case progress and provide the courts with independent reports. Most importantly, advocates speak up for the child.

Who can become a CASA advocate?

CASA welcomes adult volunteers from all walks of life. The agency is looking for people who care about children and have common sense. Volunteers will be thoroughly trained and well supported by professional staff to help them through each case. Volunteers must pass a background check, participate in 30 hours of initial training, and be willing to commit to a case for a minimum of 12-18 months. Once assigned, an advocate can expect to spend 10-15 hours per month on the case.
