SUMMARY:Contemporary Indigenous Voices of California's South Coast Range showing in Santa Cruz
DESCRIPTION:Photographer and documentarian Kirti Bassendine unveils her latest exhibition “Contemporary Indigenous Voices of California’s South Coast Range”\, a revolutionary project showcasing photography and short films of elders and culture-bearers from tribal nations\, councils\, and communities along California’s Southern Coast Range: San Francisco Peninsula\, East and South Bay through the Santa Cruz mountains\, Monterey Bay\, Gavilan and Santa Lucia Mountains\, and lower Salinan Valley. \nBassendine’s photographs are accompanied by powerful personal statements from Native community members calling attention to cultural connections to the land; rematriation: restoring the relationship between Indigenous people and their ancestral land; and ecological and climate breakdown. \nThe exhibition includes photographic portraits\, personal statements and short films\, to be shown at multiple venues around the region. Each exhibit will be opened by a reception where project participants will share their stories\, demonstrate and hold a Q&A panel discussion around issues raised by the exhibit. \nThere are upcoming exhibitions and receptions in Santa Cruz in mid-August. \nOpen to the public August 17-27 at Santa Cruz Museum of Arts and History\, with an opening reception August 19th. Mercury brings set-backs and errors in communication and technology each time it turns retrograde. \nThe need to prepare all communication\, purchases\, and plans with extra care is even more important this time around because 6 other planets will join Mercury in retrograde! \nMercury\, Venus\, Jupiter\, Saturn\, Pluto\, Neptune and Uranus will all be in retrograde just as the new school year begins and continue right up until the holiday season kicks off in October. \nMost planets retrograde each year but it is rare to have so many retrogrades overlap – making Fall 2023 more like Retrograde Season. \nEmily Darling will be offering a talk on how to leverage lessons from the Mercury retrograde to navigate the setbacks\, surprises and second-chances that will surface as the other planets retrograde from Sept to Oct. \nDrawing from her 30 years calculating astrology charts for clients\, Emily will explain \n-who is most likely to experience disruption\n-which area of your life will be impacted\n-how best to prepare based upon your sign \nShe will walk us through and dispel some common myths about what you should and shouldn’t do during this time. There will be time to ask questions and share your mercury retrograde horror stories! Additionally\, each articpant will receive a journal to take home!
