DESCRIPTION:San Benito County Office of Education (SBCOE) is excited to announce the upcoming 2024 STEAM Expo\, which will feature the County Science Fair\, sending top projects to the California State Science and Engineering Fair. The Expo is set to be held on Wednesday\, March 13th from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Veterans Memorial Building in Hollister. It will showcase student projects in Math\, Science\, Engineering\, Art\, and Technology from across the county. This year’s STEAM Expo will provide an excellent platform for students to showcase their innovative projects. With the guidance of parents\, teachers\, and clubs\, students from TK to 12th grade will have the opportunity to display their projects for judges\, industry professionals\, and the community. \nThe 2024 STEAM Expo will also feature demonstrations\, information\, and hands-on activities from various organizations\, including The Tech Museum’s Tech Challenge and Tech Academies\, Julia Robinson Math Festival\, Pinnacles National Park\, Abbot Medical\, Nu U Institute\, Ecology Action: Resilient Central Coast\, San Benito Robotics\, Deep Space Robotics\, RAFT (Resource Area for Teaching)\, Recology San Benito County\, San Benito Arts Council\, and San Benito County Integrated Waste. \nRotary-sponsored science Fair trophies will be awarded\, as well as awards from partners at IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers)\, Cal State Monterey Bay\, and SBCOE’s Special Recognition categories. This will create a more inclusive and equitable event\, encouraging students to bring their best projects to the Expo. \nThe STEAM Expo and County Science Fair is set to be a fantastic event that will bring together students\, educators\, and industry professionals to celebrate the power of STEAM education. DESCRIPTION:The community is invited to Hollister High School’s library on Wednesday\, Jan. 17 (in Spanish) and Thursday\, Jan. 18 (in English) for community town halls to update the planning and preparation process for a second high school in the San Benito High School District. The events\, which will feature food and childcare\, will update the community on the information gathered since the initial town halls in August. The District hosted a series of 10 K-8 Listening and Awareness sessions at local elementary schools throughout the Fall. That information will be shared at the town halls\, along with updates on upcoming steps in the planning process\, which will include the presentation of new school renderings at town hall events in June 2024.

SUMMARY:Pajaro Compass Network Fall Stakeholder Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Pajaro Compass Network Fall Stakeholder Meeting\, from 8:30am-12:00pm (with optional walking tour of the property after lunch)\, will be an excellent opportunity to learn about\, connect\, and engage in efforts to enhance the environmental\, economic\, and cultural sustainability of the Pajaro River watershed. \nThe meeting takes place at the San Benito Agricultural Land Trust (SBALT)’s Nyland Property in San Juan Bautista and features topics relevant to the Upper and Lower Pajaro Watershed as well as a tour of the ranch. The Nyland Property is a 500-acre historic cattle ranch with important wetland habitat and wildlife connectivity values that was recently acquired by SBALT in partnership with three other land trusts. An important feature of this acquisition is a cultural easement\, the first of its kind in San Benito County\, held by the Amah Mutsun Land Trust. The cultural easement provides tribal access for indigenous land stewardship and cultural and educational activities on the property. Additional presentations include an overview of the “Gabilan to Santa Cruz Mountains Landscape Linkage” project\, as well as an invitation for public engagement with a project in the lower watershed: “Improving water system resilience to climate change with levee setback to create multiple benefits.” \n**There is no cost to attend. Coffee and pastries will be provided.
