DESCRIPTION:The community is invited to Hollister High School’s library on Wednesday\, Jan. 17 (in Spanish) and Thursday\, Jan. 18 (in English) for community town halls to update the planning and preparation process for a second high school in the San Benito High School District. The events\, which will feature food and childcare\, will update the community on the information gathered since the initial town halls in August. The District hosted a series of 10 K-8 Listening and Awareness sessions at local elementary schools throughout the Fall. That information will be shared at the town halls\, along with updates on upcoming steps in the planning process\, which will include the presentation of new school renderings at town hall events in June 2024.

SUMMARY:Pajaro Compass Network Fall Stakeholder Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Pajaro Compass Network Fall Stakeholder Meeting\, from 8:30am-12:00pm (with optional walking tour of the property after lunch)\, will be an excellent opportunity to learn about\, connect\, and engage in efforts to enhance the environmental\, economic\, and cultural sustainability of the Pajaro River watershed. \nThe meeting takes place at the San Benito Agricultural Land Trust (SBALT)’s Nyland Property in San Juan Bautista and features topics relevant to the Upper and Lower Pajaro Watershed as well as a tour of the ranch. The Nyland Property is a 500-acre historic cattle ranch with important wetland habitat and wildlife connectivity values that was recently acquired by SBALT in partnership with three other land trusts. An important feature of this acquisition is a cultural easement\, the first of its kind in San Benito County\, held by the Amah Mutsun Land Trust. The cultural easement provides tribal access for indigenous land stewardship and cultural and educational activities on the property. Additional presentations include an overview of the “Gabilan to Santa Cruz Mountains Landscape Linkage” project\, as well as an invitation for public engagement with a project in the lower watershed: “Improving water system resilience to climate change with levee setback to create multiple benefits.” \n**There is no cost to attend. Coffee and pastries will be provided. It would be easy to become disheartened and to point fingers at agriculture as one of the major contributors to global warming — was it not for a growing cadre of innovative farmers and ranchers that are restoring working lands to drawdown atmospheric carbon\, efficiently recycle nitrogen\, and increase water storing capacity. \nMany in this forward-thinking group are women\, who care deeply about our soil and excel at nurturing it. In what is promising to be yet another compelling prelude to the EcoFarm Conference\, we’re teaming up with Paicines Ranch to introduce you to some of the remarkable female farmers\, ranchers\, scientists\, physicians and advocates at the core of the regenerative movement. \nIronically\, while there is too much carbon in the atmosphere\, agricultural soils the world over are carbon deficient and nutrient depleted\, resulting in increased health issues and food insecurity!
