SUMMARY:Youth Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Youth Rally-Hollister is for ALL Youth in San Benito County. \n  \nMission: To create fun and engaging activities throughout the year that will install values\, community connections and leadership opportunities for the youth of San Benito County. \n  \nVision: That the residents of San Benito County would rise up and meet the needs of all youth in our community by providing free activities throughout the year\, on a monthly or quarterly basis\, for youth who may not be able to afford them. In doing so\, adults would mentor youth and provide them with positive role which would  encourage them in their physical\, emotional\, mental and spiritual well-being. \n  \nOur goal is to make this a FREE event and in order to make this happen we need community volunteers to organize and resource their contacts to donate time\, raffle items\, games\, activities\, and more. I am currently working on setting up an account the Community Foundation for tax deductible donations to be accepted. \n  \nHow this came about: \nAfter the stabbing death Andres Guzman\, a local Hollister teen\, there was much public outcry and the community shouted ENOUGH! \nThe local Neighborhood Watch page on Facebook was blowing up with comments about ENOUGH being ENOUGH. \nMany people provided input on the fact that there is little for youth to do in our community that is affordable to the low-income population. Youth need to have positive reinforcement and a sense of belonging. Without that they put themselves at risk of being lured into gangs in order to feel they are part of a family. Years ago the community held an annual Teen Rally. \nAfter the downturn in the economy many of the agencies involved no longer had the funding or the manpower to continue organizing the event. The last Teen Rally was held in May 2006. After reading all of the comments\, I stated that I was involved with the Teen Rally Committee back then and\, if the community was willing to step up to the plate\, I would be willing to take the lead to help revive the Teen Rally. \nA Teen Rally Brainstorming meeting was held on Saturday\, August 24\, 2013. At that meeting those in attendance came up with ideas on what types of activities should be included\, who could be contacted and what date the event should be held. \nYouth in attendance decided they wanted this event to be open to youth of all ages and not just teens. This way\, the older youth could mentor the younger youth. Ideas consisted of: Dance competitions\, Battle of the Bands\, Art Wall\, Poetry Slam\, Tie Dye Station\, Craft/Recycling Art Table\, Sports Challenges\, 3on3 Basketball\, Pick-up Volleyball\, Laser Tag\, Dunk Tank\, 50 foot Ice Cream Sundae\, Treasure Chest (Free Flea Market) and much more. \nOur goal is to make this a FREE event and in order to make this happen we need community volunteers to organize and resource their contacts to donate time\, raffle items\, games\, activities\, and more. \nLike us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/youthrally-hollister

SUMMARY:San Benito High School seeks community input regarding facilities
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to participate as the SBHSD Board of Trustees embarks on a most important endeavor! \n\nThe San Benito High School Board of Trustees is beginning to investigate possible facility and\nmodernization projects which could be included in a general obligation bond submitted for voter approval.\nDuring the past several years\, San Benito High School\, due to its fiscally conservative management\,\nhas been able to use existing funds to build classrooms\, facilities\, and upgrade technology. The school has\nnow reached a point where facility and modernization projects can only be financed by a general obligation\nbond. \n\nIn November 2012\, the Board approved a Facilities Master Plan which provides for an incremental\nand strategic framework for meeting the educational needs of San Benito High School students.\nSeveral months ago\, the District authorized a community survey to ascertain community support for\nfacility and modernization projects which would lead to the successful passage of a general obligation bond.\nThe result of that poll indicated the community would support improvements focused on the following:\n1. Academic and Career Prep Programs\n2. Campus Safety (improved earthquake readiness\, etc.)\n3. Facility improvements that modernize and improve outdated classrooms\n4. Water and energy efficiency to enable investment of those cost savings into instruction\ntechnologies \n\nOn Wednesday\, October 30\, 2013\, in the San Benito High School Cafeteria\, from 7:00-8:30 p.m.\,\nthe San Benito High School District’s Board of Trustees will be holding a special meeting to receive input\nfrom the San Benito County community. Wednesday’s discussion will focus on identifying\npriorities\, based on the school’s master plan\, which support the recent community\npolling results. Community input received at this meeting\, as well as staff input and recent community\npolling\, will help guide the Board as it identifies priorities for facility and modernization projects submitted\nfor voter approval. \n\nPlease visit www.haybaler.org for more details and future updates. We encourage parents and\ncommunity members to attend the special meeting on October 30\, and share your views about facility\nimprovements and expansion at San Benito High School.
