We’ll explore the weird and wonderful nocturnal life of Hollister Hills SVRA as you “trick or treat” along the Bird Creek Trail in the Nature Area. The event is on Saturday\, October 28 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Families should arrive at 5pm to have enough time to decorate a pumpkin and “trick or treat.” \nDIRECTIONS: drive to the main entrance (lower ranch) of Hollister Hills SVRA\, located 5 miles south of Hollister on Cienega Road. Check in and pay the park entrance fee at the kiosk. Visitors from around the globe come here to view the buildings in the city's historical district. Each of the many buildings identified as historic on the National Registry of Historic Places have tales to tell! \nTo help in the accurate telling of these stories\, several representatives of local community groups: Rozas House\, Inc.\, the San Juan Bautista Historical Society\, the San Juan Committee and City of San Juan Bautista\, formed a committee in February 2017 with the purpose of identifying the City's historic buildings with a Historic Walking Trail Map patterned after the map that has been available to visitors for years\, Historic Plaques for the buildings located in the Third Street Historic Commercial District and\, the committee is taking advantage of 21st technology by placing a QR code on the plaques\, which will link to a website with a detailed history and photographs\, old and new\, for each building. \nA project like this would not be possible without funding. The committee has been funded in part by a community impact grant from the Community Foundation for San Benito County and grants from the San Juan Bautista City Council\, County Supervisor Anthony Botelho\,  the San Juan Bautista Historical Society\, and local business True Leaf Farms. Additional funds to complete a second phase of the project are needed and fundraising is underway. SUMMARY:Community Emergency Response Team Basic Training
DESCRIPTION:San Benito County Community Emergency Response Team Training  \nThe San Benito County Office of Emergency Services is excited to announce an upcoming free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training opportunity being held on three (3) consecutive Saturdays in April at the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office in Hollister. \nCERT is a FEMA-certified course on basic disaster preparedness for self\, family\, neighborhood and community. The course educates residents in San Benito County about preparedness for hazards that may impact our community and provides training in basic emergency response skills\, such as: disaster preparedness\, fire safety\, home utility control\, light search and rescue\, emergency medical operations\, community response team organization\, and disaster psychology. \nUsing skills learned in the classroom and during exercises\, participants will be better prepared to safely and appropriately provide assistance to their family\, neighborhood\, community\, and workplace following a disaster when professional responders may not be immediately available to help. Once the basic training course has been completed\, CERT members are eligible to be deployed in the community to assist with large scale emergency and disaster incidents (e.g.\, a large earthquake with widespread damage). \nThis CERT training course will be held at the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office\, located at 2301 Technology Parkway\, Hollister\, CA 95023. The schedule for the course is as follows: \n\nSaturday\, April 7\, 2018 – 8:30 am to 4:45 pm\nSaturday\, April 14\, 2018 – 8:30 am to 4:45 pm\nSaturday\, April 21\, 2018 – 8:30 am to 4:45 pm*\n\n        *Disaster simulation exercise is held on the last Saturday of the course. A soul generated by love.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. \nDesignated as a federal holiday in 1938 MLK Jr. Day celebrates the life of Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. This day honors his legacy by being the only federal holiday recognized as a national day of service that encourages citizens to be empowered and get involved with their communities. \nJoin Pinnacles as we make it a day on and not a day off with a service project in the park on Monday\, January 15th.  Meet at the East Entrance Visitor Center at 8:45 am for registration. Service projects will begin at 9am. \nThe service projects will be about four hours long wrapping up at 1pm. Service projects include invasive species removal\, trail maintenance\, and litter abatement. Come prepared with sturdy shoes\, a water bottle and a great attitude. All tools and necessary personal protection equipment will be provided by the park as well as water. Service projects are family friendly. All are welcome! Volunteers for the event will also have their park entrance fee waived if they participate so they can hike in park afterwards! \nGroups over 15 please contact our Volunteer Office to register. DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED — Due to rain in the forecast\, this event has been cancelled and will be re-scheduled for later this year\, or early 2018.  We'll keep you posted on new dates and other opportunities like this one! \nRanchers\, farmers\, other landowners\, and community members of all ages are invited to come out to the Pajaro Ranch  (formerly known as Gonzales Farm) to celebrate a conservation and community success story on working agricultural lands. \nGuests are welcome to bring a blanket and picnic lunch and get your hands dirty by planting trees and helping with other stewardship activities\, or just come see the site\, view the new interpretative sign\, and eat cake!  Cake will be served at 11:30 am. Map and directions will be e-mailed prior to the event.  Please note the terrain is rugged\, so wear sturdy shoes and comfortable clothes; all tools will be provided. \nSince 2014 local schoolchildren\, including students from San Benito High School\, local 4-H clubs\, and Tres Pinos\, Cerra Vista\, and R.O.
