DESCRIPTION:Join REI and Pinnacles Partnership for a hike at Pinnacles National Park to search for the majestic California Condor in its native habitat. You and your REI guide will be joined by an expert condor tracker and long-time volunteer with the Condor Restoration Program who will lead a 3 to 5 mile hike with 1000-1400 feet of elevation gain in potentially hot weather. Along the way you will hear all about the condor's fight for survival from near extinction as you search for the magnificent but elusive bird soaring overhead or perched on a pinnacle. You will learn about the geology\, flora\, and other wildlife that inhabit Pinnacles National Park\, a unique and beautiful addition to the National Park System. A significant portion of your registration fee directly supports the Pinnacles Condor Fund to aid in condor recovery. Please note that condor sighting is highly likely but not guaranteed on this tour; an amazing and educational day in the wilderness is guaranteed! \n

DESCRIPTION:Temple Beth El in Salinas will be hosting a Catskill Comedy Night on Saturday\, June 4th at 7 PM. \nThe Catskill Mountains in upstate New York\, were a popular vacation area for Jewish residents of New York City between the 1920’s and 1970’s.  It became known as the Borscht Belt.  Many popular Jewish comedians got their start there\, including such well known names as Woody Allen\, Mel Brooks\, Sid Caesar\, Joan Rivers\, Jerry Lewis\, Jerry Stiller\, and Henny Youngman.   \nWith the increasing availability and affordability of air travel\, the area became less popular as the 20th Century progressed\, and is no longer a prime vacation spot.  However\, it remains a fond memory for those that experienced it in its heyday\, or for lovers of comedy everywhere. \nLocal singer and funnyman Mark Levy will present his tribute to the comedians of the era for one night only. DESCRIPTION:See: https://benitolinkcom.wpengine.com/san-benito-county-hams-help-national-field-day \n​Have you ever wondered how you could call for help if cell service and the internet were down?  How did people make emergency calls without power before cell phones were invented?  \nOne way people were able to call for help was using amateur radios on special frequencies set aside for that purpose. Amateur radio – sometimes called ham radio – has been around for over 100 years\, yet it is still vital in today’s electronic do-it-yourself environment. Operators learn about electronics\, physics\, meteorology and other scientific disciplines while learning to use radios and set up antennas. \nThis year's American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Field Day is June 25-26\, although\, locally we're only having this event on Saturday June 25th.. It is a nationwide event that encourages amateur radio operators to take their radios\, antennas and batteries to public places and set up temporary stations to showcase the science and skill of Amateur Radio. \nField Day is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend; no license is needed to join in on the fun. The San Benito County Amateur Radio Association\, along with the Garlic Valley Amateur Radio Club and the Morgan Hill Amateur Radio Society\, will be setting up at the TEEC buliding at Christmas Hill Park\, 7050 Miller Ave\, Gilroy\, and will be operating from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Stations will be set up that will enable people to talk to faraway places like Illinois\, and Canada (examples of contacts made last year).  Radios that can make international and space (International Space Station\, amateur radio satellites) contacts will be set up as well. \nAnyone may become a licensed amateur radio operator.  There are more than 725\,000 licensed hams in the United States\, as young as 5 or as old as 100 years old.
