Fracking is a worldwide issue\, and over 200 community groups in 20 countries are challenging hydraulic fracturing activities. These new oil and gas extraction technics use millions of gallons of water\, sand and carcinogenic chemicals to break up and open shale rock deep underground. SUMMARY:Guided Birding Hikes at Pinnacles $50
DESCRIPTION:Join Pinnacles Partnership’s Pinnacles Condor Fund group for their Guided Birding Hikes in Pinnacles National Park.  The hikes are led by Rusty Scalf and Condor Crew volunteers from Pinnacles National Park. Rusty is a life-long birder who has been teaching bird identification to beginning birders since 1990. He is active in the County Breeding Bird Atlas programs of Alameda\, Contra Costa\, Yolo and Solano counties.  Rusty also leads trips for the Monterey Birding Festival. \nAll walks meet at the east side Visitor Center at 8:30 a.m.  Participants need to pre-register and make a $50 donation per participant prior to the event.  Bring binoculars\, water\, lunch\, and sun protection.  Hikes will vary and are individualized depending on participants. SUMMARY:The Story of Frank Delos Wolfe\, Noted Architect
DESCRIPTION:San Jose architect Frank Delos Wolfe was one of the most prolific architects in the country at the turn of the 20th century\, responsible for as many as 1\,000 structures in Northern California\, including San Benito County.  \nFrom the Wapple House in 1908 to the Paicines Ranch in 1913 to a number of Mediterranean Revival homes in the 1920s\, Frank Wolfe helped shape the residential landscape of Hollister and its surroundings. One of his earliest Prairie homes was built in Hollister in 1912 for Gertrude Wapple’s parents\, Mary and Thomas McCloskey. \nKrista Van Laan is the author of the new book\, “Frank Delos Wolfe: California Prairie Architecture\,” and on September 24\, she will present the story of the Prairie homes and the clients who commissioned them\, with a focus on the work Wolfe did in San Benito County. Signed books will be available for $39.95 for those who wish to purchase them.
