SUMMARY:First Annual San Benito Olive Festival
DESCRIPTION:The inaugural San Benito Olive Festival on Saturday\, October 19\, 2013\, 11 am to 5 pm\, will begin a new tradition of showcasing the rich agricultural bounty and beauty of San Benito County in the California Central Coast region. This new gourmet celebration will feature well-respected growers and premier artisans who handcraft their award winning olive oils\, wines\, chocolates\, dried fruits\, teas\, preserves and other culinary agricultural products. The event will take place at the scenic and historic Paicines Ranch\, 13388 Airline Highway (California Highway 25)\, in Paicines\, about 12 miles south of Hollister. \n  \nFestival goers will not only be able to taste award winning olive oils and wines from Oils of Paicines\, Brigantino Olive Oil\, Pietra Santa Winery\, Calera Wine\, Casa de Fruta and Guglielmo Winery\, among others\, but they will also have opportunities to meet and chat with the creators. The selected oils and wines will be paired with an array of premium foods and artisanal creations provided by Running Rooster\, San Juan Oaks Dining\, Paine's Restaurant\, Marich Premium Chocolates and more. \n  \nFestivities include cooking demonstrations by celebrated chefs from various areas of Northern California. They include Dorothy McNett\, Central Coast foodie legend and head chef and instructor of the Cooking Club in Pacific Grove; Maurizio Cutrignelli\, owner and chef of Maurizio's in Morgan Hill; and Matt Woolston\, owner and chef of the Supper Club and Matteo's Pizza & Bistro in the Sacramento area. Gilroy Garlic Festival's popular celebrity chef team of Gene Sakahara and Sam Bozzo\, also known as SakaBozzo\, will be doing demonstrations and entertaining guests as well. \n  \nIn addition\, Don Landis\, "The Olive Guy"\, an expert on olives\, will be demonstrating three ways to de-bitter olives. Mr. O’s Jazz Band\, the Workhouse Poets and other bands will perform a mix of jazz\, soul\, country and other styles of music throughout the day. Local art and cultural exhibits will be on display from the San Benito County Arts Council and the San Benito County Historical Society. \n  \nGeneral admission tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children. SUMMARY:San Benito High School seeks community input regarding facilities
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to participate as the SBHSD Board of Trustees embarks on a most important endeavor! \n\nThe San Benito High School Board of Trustees is beginning to investigate possible facility and\nmodernization projects which could be included in a general obligation bond submitted for voter approval.\nDuring the past several years\, San Benito High School\, due to its fiscally conservative management\,\nhas been able to use existing funds to build classrooms\, facilities\, and upgrade technology. The school has\nnow reached a point where facility and modernization projects can only be financed by a general obligation\nbond. \n\nIn November 2012\, the Board approved a Facilities Master Plan which provides for an incremental\nand strategic framework for meeting the educational needs of San Benito High School students.\nSeveral months ago\, the District authorized a community survey to ascertain community support for\nfacility and modernization projects which would lead to the successful passage of a general obligation bond.\nThe result of that poll indicated the community would support improvements focused on the following:\n1. Academic and Career Prep Programs\n2. Campus Safety (improved earthquake readiness\, etc.)\n3. Facility improvements that modernize and improve outdated classrooms\n4. Water and energy efficiency to enable investment of those cost savings into instruction\ntechnologies \n\nOn Wednesday\, October 30\, 2013\, in the San Benito High School Cafeteria\, from 7:00-8:30 p.m.\,\nthe San Benito High School District’s Board of Trustees will be holding a special meeting to receive input\nfrom the San Benito County community. Wednesday’s discussion will focus on identifying\npriorities\, based on the school’s master plan\, which support the recent community\npolling results. Community input received at this meeting\, as well as staff input and recent community\npolling\, will help guide the Board as it identifies priorities for facility and modernization projects submitted\nfor voter approval. \n\nPlease visit www.haybaler.org for more details and future updates.
