SUMMARY:Help Create Safe Streets for Everyone - Nash/Tres Pinos/Sunnyslope Road & McCray Street
DESCRIPTION:Community Workshop #2 will be held November 7\, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Rancho San Justo Middle School Gym\, 1201 Rancho Drive as part of the preparation of a "Complete Streets" plan for Tres Pinos/Nash/Sunnyslope Road and McCray Street (Tres Pinos Road-South/Hillcrest).  Spanish translation will be provided.  The professional design team gathered public input on solutions to improve safety and mobility for people of all ages and abilities along and across the Nash/Tres Pinos/Sunnyslope Road and McCray Street corridors at a Community Workshop on September 17\, 2013\, a stakeholder subgroup meeting and from an on-line and door to door survey.  The first hour of the November 7\, 2013 workshop (6:00 – 7:00 p.m.) will review conceptual alternatives prepared by the design team.  During the second hour of the workshop (7:00 – 8:00 p.m.)\, the public will be invited to mark-up poster maps and provide comments.  A third public workshop will be held early next year.  The Complete Streets planning effort is funded with an Environmental Justice Transportation Planning Grant from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). \nComplete Streets are streets that are designed with all users of all types\, ages and abilities in mind: pedestrians\, cyclists\, transit riders\, seniors\, school children\, people with disabilities\, and motorists.  If you would like to learn more about complete street concepts\, the following link provides a bilingual summary:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/tf7nxng5eghzxkt/Hollister-workshop-0913.pdf. \n  \nWe encourage you to invite family\, friends and colleagues to participate in this community planning effort.  If you are unable to attend\, but would like to send comments to the design team or have questions\, please contact Mary Paxton at (831) 636-4316 or by e-mail at mary.paxton@hollister.ca.gov. \n

DESCRIPTION:Hollister\, CA – On November 3\, 2013 the Hollister Police Department and its volunteers started a campaign called “Hollister Gives Back” (HGB) to support local\, state and national needs. HGB’s first endeavor will to join the national effort “Holiday Mail for Heroes”.  \nCommunity members\, individuals\, groups\, schools\, churches and businesses in the Hollister /San Benito County area are all asked to help and join in this effort. The programs focus is holiday cards that are distributed to injured service members and veterans.  \nThe public is asked for donations of their extra holiday cards.\nSeveral locations in Hollister have been set up for drop / collection of the holiday cards including the Hollister Police Department\, Fire Stations\, Animal Shelter and all city offices. The Holliwood store (748 San Benito Street) in downtown Hollister is also a designated drop off location.  \nAdditionally there will be several holiday card “signing” events throughout the next few weeks.  \nGuidelines for the program are as follows.:  \nEnsure that all cards are signed.  \nUse generic salutations such as “Dear Service Member.” Cards addressed to specific individuals can not be delivered through this program.  \nOnly cards are being accepted. Do not send letters.  \nDo not include email or home addresses on the cards\, as the program is not meant to foster pen pal relationships.  \nDo not include inserts of any kind\, including photos\, as these items will be removed during the reviewing process.  \nPlease refrain from choosing cards with glitter or using loose glitter as it can aggravate health issues of ill and injured warriors.  \nIf you are mailing a large quantity of cards\, please bundle them and place them in large mailing envelopes or flat rate postal shipping boxes. Story Hour will feature stories\, music\, rhymes\, and fingerplays followed by Stay & Play fun activities with crafts\, educational toys and AWE pre-literacy computers for preschoolers.  Current news is that last Wednesday on October 30th\, 28 excited toddlers and preschoolers in costumes with 20 parents from Vicki's morning storytime marched in a special Halloween parade around the children's area while intently banging on musical instruments. \nOn the first and second Tuesday of each month a Family Story Time from 6:00pm-7:00pm will start on November 5th with Storyteller Gladis Trejo. For more information and a link to Birdies for Charity\, visit our website at www.PinnaclesPartnership.org.   \nAfter a quiet period\, Pinnacles Partnership is again ready to support programs and projects at Pinnacles National Park.  Funds raised during this fundraising drive will support education\, resource stewardship\, and enhanced visitor experiences at Pinnacles National Park.  Some of the programs we currently fund include Camp Pinnacles for elementary school children\, enhancements to the Condor Recovery Program\, supplies for the Sister School and Sister Park programs\, youth employment programs\, events to help eradicate on non-native plants\, and the restoration of the Bear Valley School historic structure. \nPinnacles Partnership is a collaborative effort between area citizens and National Park Service staff.  Birdies for Charity is a program coordinated by Monterey Peninsula Foundation to assist non-profits in raising money through the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

DESCRIPTION:DECEMBER 7\, 11am – 9pm\, in and around the State Park buildings and downtown.The holidays are sure to be especially festive this year with BIG merchant sales & specials\, and exciting events for the entire family!   December 7th\, features a San Juan Committee event called “Visions of San Juan\, A Holiday Stroll Through Time\,  coupled with Merchants Holiday Open House!  \nThe stroll begins with a twilight tree lighting in the State Park Orchard on Third Street\, enter Orchard gate on Third. Enjoy and mingle to the sound of Christmas Carols in the air. Santa will be at the Orchard greeting children and handing out special treat bags to all children who visit him. Pictures with Santa will be available for purchase! \nA Stroll Tour Map and Program of Activities will be available at the Orchard. Stroll stops will include the Plaza Hotel and Saloon where there will be live entertainment\, storytelling (T’was the Night Before Christmas) and refreshments. The outdoor kitchen behind the Castro Breen adobe will offer refreshments and tamales for sale\, and several businesses in town which are located in historic buildings will have a special treat for strollers\, giving tours and information regarding the history of their buildings. Merchants will be staying open for shopping until 9pm. \n
