DESCRIPTION:Artwork by master teacher John Robrock’s students at San Benito High School 2001-2018. \nOn exhibit since January 15 at Luna Gallery and Eco Art Studio\, 107-B The Alameda\, San Juan Bautista\, Ca. \n50 artworks to be sold – either unclaimed/unsigned\, with unintelligible signatures\, or donated by the artists to the auction\, a benefit fundraiser for youth art classes at the Luna Gallery and Eco Art Studio. \nMr. Robrock\, MFA\, retired from San Benito High School (now Hollister High School) in 2018 after 17 years teaching there. Last year he found artworks in his archives that students forgot to take home and he has sought to reunite the students with their artwork.

DESCRIPTION:San Benito County Cert \nMarch 7\, 8\, 15 \nSan Benito County would like to announce our first Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training class of 2025! Taking place on March 7\, 8\, 15\, at the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office. \nCERT training teaches volunteers about disaster preparedness and response skills. Volunteers will learn about fire safety\, light search and rescue\, team organization\, disaster medical operations and more. Training is free and each volunteer will receive their own CERT disaster preparedness backpack filled with emergency response gear. \nClasses are limited in size\, so it is a first come\, first serve basis. DESCRIPTION:This Saturday the 8th of March at 1:00pm the family and friends of the late John Z Hernandez will meet at the park named after him in Villa Hermosa. \nWe will have a small remembrance of the works of my Korean War Veteran father and the impact he has had on many of us who lived there from its inception January 1971. \nHe was a man of small stature but possessed a heart that overflowed with compassion for the less fortunate. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched\, inspiring future generations to embrace his spirit of generosity and unwavering commitment to justice. He passed away on January 29\, 1997\, leaving behind a legacy for all to emulate.

DESCRIPTION:The annual San Benito County Office of Education STEAM Expo will be held on Thursday\, March 13\, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial Building (649 San Benito Street) in Downtown Hollister. \nThe SBCOE STEAM Expo is an exciting event that combines the thrill of a science fair with interactive\, hands-on learning for all ages. Families can explore a wide range of activities\, from engaging science experiments to creative play stations\, all designed to spark curiosity and inspire learning in science\, technology\, engineering\, art\, and\nmathematics. Attendees will also receive a student gift bag filled with free STEAM kits and fun surprises. DESCRIPTION:Gavilan College’s Music Program is now preparing for its landmark 25th Bach to Blues Concert on Saturday\, March 15\, at 7:00 p.m. in the Gavilan College Theater. \nThe college has announced exciting guest performers for this milestone anniversary event. The concert will open with a dynamic performance by the Niseishin Daiko drumming group from Morgan Hill.  The second half will showcase acclaimed jazz vocalist Kenny Washington. \nWashington\, a New Orleans native now based in the San Francisco Bay Area\, is known for his soulful interpretations\, remarkable vocal range\, and impressive scatting ability.  He has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis and has been featured in tributes to Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald.  His diverse musical background includes gospel\, classical\, R&B\, and jazz influences. \nWhat began in 1998 as a performance outlet for music faculty has evolved into a community event that spans musical genres from classical to jazz\, flamenco to pop standards. \n“Bach to Blues has become a showcase that brings together college disciplines and creates a concert that the community eagerly anticipates each year\,” said Maria Amirkhanian\, music instructor at Gavilan College and event organizer.  “It’s like a musical menu – you’ll certainly find something you enjoy.” \nThe concert serves as a fundraiser for the college’s music program\, with proceeds supporting equipment needs\, piano maintenance\, and other essential resources for music students.  The event also provides valuable performance experience for Gavilan music students\, who will perform during the show’s opening and intermission. \nThis year’s concert will feature performances by music faculty including Amirkhanian\, Dahveed Behroozi and Albert Marqués.  The winner of the senior division local prize from the recently concluded Marian Filice Youth Piano Competition will also perform. \nThe piano competition\, held March 2\, provided a showcase for remarkably talented young pianists from throughout Northern California competing in junior and senior divisions.  “The level of talent was unbelievable\,” Amirkhanian noted.  “These kids were incredible\, and their preparation and performances were truly impressive.” \nTickets for the Bach to Blues Concert are $10 for students and seniors\, $20 for general admission\, and can be purchased at the door or in advance at the Gavilan College Bookstore\, BookSmart in Morgan Hill\, the Gavilan Hollister Campus\, and online at bit.ly/gavb2b25 . \nFor more information about these events\, contact the Gavilan College Music Program at (408) 848-4796 or visit www.gavilan.edu.
