SUMMARY:34 Annual Rotary Mission 10 Race
DESCRIPTION:This event is in its 34th year. It is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Hollister and all proceeds go to benefit local scholarships and charities. San Juan Bautista is a small California Mission town just off Hwy 101 appoximately 50 miles south of San Jose. The four races: 1/2 marathon\, 10 miles\, 5k and 1 Mile kids fun run\, all start and finish in front of the historic and beautiful San Juan Mission. The area is rural and the course takes runners through farm land and up the Anzar hills. Medals are awarded three deep in standard age categories. The 1/2 marathon and 10 mile races are particularly good training for upcoming spring marathons. Theme teams encouraged.

DESCRIPTION:President Barack Obama signed the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) into law on July 22\, 2014. The WIOA supersedes the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) and amends the Wagner-Peyser Act\, the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act\, and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. \nAs with the preceding WIA\, the WIOA helps job seekers succeed in the labor market by providing access to employment\, education\, training\, and support services while matching employers with the skilled workers they need to compete in the global economy. In addition\, the enactment of WIOA provides a new opportunity to ensure that America’s Job Center of CaliforniaSM (AJCC) locations remain effective and job-driven—responding to the needs of employers and preparing workers for jobs\, now and in the future.

The SBFSC is open to all members of the public and is a collaboration between the private sector and fire agencies. The SBFSC secures grants that facilitate the reduction in fuels\, thereby increasing safety in the highest risk fire areas. In spring 2017\, SBFSC is wrapping up a 2-year\, $117\,000 grant that extended a shaded fuel break in San Juan Canyon by 2.5 miles and provided multiple free chipping services to the residents of San Juan Canyon. \nNew members are always welcome. SUMMARY:Startup Challenge Monterey Bay 2017 Orientation in Downtown Hollister
DESCRIPTION:Startup Challenge Monterey Bay is a new business competition and accelerator program that supports the founding\, funding and growth of new and innovative businesses in the Monterey Bay region. It offers workshops\, feedback\, and mentoring to empower entrepreneurs in a competitive process. The City of Hollister is sponsoring an orientation to be hosted 6-7:30PM Thursday evening\, March 2nd at the Hollister City Hall Council Chambers located at 375 5th Street in Downtown Hollister. Nothing inspires and prepares entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to market like Startup Challenge Monterey Bay! \nApplications are due by midnight\, Monday\, March 13th for the 2017 Startup Challenge Monterey Bay. The Challenge is open to all entrepreneurs and start up companies in Monterey\, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties\, as well as the cities of Gilroy and Morgan Hill. Applications are to be completed online at www.thestartupchallenge.org\, and are due March 13th. \nThe competition has three divisions. The Venture Division for businesses designed to grow into large businesses\, the Main Street Division for small businesses\, sole proprietorships\, and non-profits\, and the Student Division for student teams at all levels from high school through graduate school. \nPrizes offered by the Challenge include $1\,500 cash for the winning Student Division team\, $10\,000 cash and $2\,500 in professional services for the winning Main Street company\, and a $20\,000 grand prize in cash and $10\,000 in professional services for the winning Venture Division company \nKey dates for the Challenge are the application deadline on March 13th\, the Qualifying Round pitches on April 8th\, and the Final Round and Venture Showcase on May 12th. \nThe Startup Challenge Monterey Bay is organized by a committee of community members and managed by the Institute for Innovation & Economic Development (iiED). The iiED supports the regional entrepreneurship ecosystem to provide resources entrepreneurs need to be successful.  The Institute also offers programs that engage entrepreneurs and managers worldwide in learning about innovation and entrepreneurial practice.
