SUMMARY:How to Make a Keyhold Garden
DESCRIPTION:UC Master Gardeners of Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties will present a FREE class on August 26 on How to Make a Keyhole Garden. Come learn this new technique for creating a raised garden bed with a compost bin built-in! \nKeyhole gardens are circular raised beds in which crops are planted around an active composting basket in the center. A small aisle is built into the structure to access the compost basket\, creating a unique "keyhole" shape. Kitchen scraps and grey water are added to the compost basket for continuous replenishment of the soil. The soil in the bed is also layered to boost its ability to maintain moisture and nourishment. \nTaught by our popular composting instructor\, UC Master Gardener Otis Johnson\, the class will be held from 10 am to noon at the MG Demonstration Garden next to the rear parking lot at 1430 Freedom Blvd in Watsonville. To register\, please visit mbmg.org. \nThe UC Master Gardeners also invite you to their "Hands on With Master Gardeners" public days at the Watsonville Demonstration Garden every Wednesday morning and every third Saturday of the month through the fall. This year we served 171 girls in the high school and middle school. Additionally\, we hired 4 Youth Leaders from San Benito High to facilitate the current middle school programs. Our programs challenge girls to explore their potential\, attend college\, build fulfilling careers and expand their sense of what is possible. Girls Inc. of the Central Coast is an affiliate of Girls Incorporated\, a national organization that has been providing programs for girls since 1864 in the United States and Canada. As an affiliate of the national organization\, Girls Incorporated of the Central Coast is part of a national network of girl-serving organizations that deliver innovative\, research-based programs designed specially to address the strengths and needs of girls ages 8 – 18 and to prepare them for economic independence and confident adulthood. In 2014we started the programs in San Benito County. We are currently working in with 171 girls from San Benito High School\, Rancho San Justo Middle School\, Ladd Lane Elementary School and Calaveras Elementary School.

SUMMARY:What's Happening at SJB Library?
DESCRIPTION:The Carl Luck Library in the City of San Juan Bautista has many offerings over the next few months.  Currently\, there is a book sale of $3 per bag of books\, daily until November 18th.  An upcoming Author's Expo is being held on Saturday\, October 21st from 12-1 p.m.  Among our local authors\, Jim Ostdick and Julie Morris will be present.  On Saturday\, October 28th from Noon to 2 pm SJBLA will be holding a Dia de los Muertos Stories and Crafts time for students and their families.  This will be a time to prepare for the upcoming festivities by creating a Calavera Mask\, Nicho for your altar\, floral headpiece\, and hear stories about what these traditions mean.  On Thursday\, Nov. 9th at 5:30 pm\, we will be holding our "What's Up?" Autumn Mixer\, where we can mix and meet with man library users and our community.
