SUMMARY:1st Annual Talent Show Auditions
DESCRIPTION:Do you or someone you know sing\, dance\, act\, are in a band\, or just have a special talent? If so then consider auditioning for San Benito Stage Company’s Talent Show. With a grand prize of $250 for first place\, $100 for second place\, and $50 for third place\, SBSC is hoping to generate interest from a variety of talented people. Auditions will be held this Friday January 19th from 6-8pm and Saturday January 20th from 9am-11am at the Granada Theater in Hollister. People interested in auditioning should prepare a piece that is no longer than 5 minutes. Acts that are selected for the show will be asked to attend a call back informational meeting in the late afternoon on the 20th to explain the rules and expectations for the show. “We are really trying to have an event that lets San Benito County showcase its talent\,” said Amy Redmond Waran and Allison Barnes\, who are producing the event. SUMMARY:Mimicking Nature: Integrating Livestock into Crop Systems Regenerative Agriculture Field Day
DESCRIPTION:A special EcoFarm Pre-Conference field day will give attendees the opportunity to see regenerative practices on the ranch and learn about the overarching frameworks and core principles from top leaders in the field. The workshop will be hosted on the historic Paicines Ranch which encompasses 7\,600 acres of rangeland\, vineyards and row crops\, \nThe day starts with an introductory overview of the new Regenerative Agriculture movement\, followed by presentations on the fundamentals of soil health and whole-systems thinking. We’ll demonstrate how to put these principles into practice – including the production of specialty compost\, and the use of cover crops\, no-till systems\, animal integration\, and holistic planned grazing. As these regenerative management practices boost farm productivity\, soil fertility\, and water-use efficiency\, they pull carbon out of the atmosphere and store it in the soil. Enjoy an interactive installation “A Taste of Place\,” an actual soil tasting and a catalyst for reflection on the day’s lessons\, instigated by artist Laura Parker. \nWalking the fields and vineyards of the ranch\, participants will be able to see examples of livestock integrated into annual and perennial cropping systems. Point Blue ecologists will showcase several onsite projects that observe how management decisions can influence the ecology of rangelands and cropping practices in California. \nLunch will be catered by acclaimed chef Jim Denevan\, founder of Outstanding In The Field. \nThe conference is sponsored by Paicines Ranch/Globetrotter Foundation & TomKat Ranch/Leftcoast Grassfed

DESCRIPTION:Farm Tour Destinations:\n1) Evergreen Acres Dairy – Jane and Mike Hulme operate is a Class A goat dairy producing raw milk\, hard and soft cheeses\, yogurt\, kefir and more\, milking California’s only Guernsey goat herd\, and utilizing Maremma guard dogs for protection. Five acres of pasture cater to ducks who produce eggs for market. We will taste some of their products and you can purchase from their on-farm store. \n\n2) Pinnacle Organically Grown Produce – Phil and Katherine Foster grow 60 top quality vegetable and fruit crops on nearly three hundred organic acres. They produce high quality compost and grow many cover crops as their primary fertility\, utilizing biological insect control\, hedgerows and nutrition for pest management. Solar power and biodiesel create energy for the farm and delivery vehicles. They sell at 10 farmers markets\, a popular farm stand\, and wholesale throughout Northern California. \n3) Coke Farm – Dale and Christine Coke began farming on 1/4 acre of organic strawberries in 1981. Today\, they grow a huge array of organic vegetables\, fruit and grain\, and market for more than 60 Central Coast organic growers via wholesale\, restaurants and farmers markets. \n4) Morris Grassfed — Julie and Joe Morris will lead tour participants on an adventure. The Morris family and crew produce direct-marketed\, high-quality grass-fed beef using advanced practices that improve soil\, plant\, and animal health on dryland pasture that has been in the family since the late 1800's. Now in their 25th year\, the Morris' are renowned for their commitment to sustainability and exceptional beef. \nTour will be led by Amigo Bob Cantisano of Organic Ag Advisors\, Sam Earnshaw of Hedgerows Unlimited\, and Karminder Aulakh Brown of San Benito Working Landscapes Group. \nCost: $90 (Includes catered lunch).  \nBuses depart from Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove at 8:00am with a second meeting place in San Juan Bautista at 8:45am. Registrants will be notified of the San Juan Bautista location by email.
