In 2019\, approximately 2.2 million veteran wreaths were placed on headstones at 2\,158 participating locations around the country in honor of the service and sacrifices made for our freedoms\, with each name said out loud. This year\, National Wreaths Across America Day is Saturday\, December 19\, 2020. For more information on how to sponsor a wreath for a hero\, please visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org. \nThe Chamber would appreciate community support in honoring our Veterans by sponsoring live wreaths to be placed on headstones in December for Wreaths Across America Day as we have done for the past 5 years. It is the Chamber’s goal to purchase a wreath for all SBC Veterans. We are partnering with the VFW to ensure we reach our goal of 500 live wreaths; one for each SBC Veteran. To reach our goal\, we need our community’s support. Due to COVID-19 many community members have been financially impacted and have been unable to donate this year. We humbly as if you would you be willing to donate towards purchasing wreaths to honor SBC Veterans? \nDue to COVID-19\, we will not be able to have a community gathering at Calvary Cemetery as we have done in past years. Our local VFW will be placing the wreaths on our behalf. The challenges that 2020 brought us this season made it tricky\, but we believed that with hard work and community efforts\, we deserve to experience this tradition and make the magic happen in and for our community!\nOver the course of 10 weeks\, we forged a way through partnering with community organizations\, local businesses\, and government to safely film a reinvented “San Benito County” version of the traditional scenes in the production. We took precautionary measures abiding by county-health guidelines\, rehearsing and filming in cohorts and mostly outdoor locations\, on-the-go around the City of Hollister and greater San Benito County\, showcasing historic landmarks and collaborating with local businesses and families in our community who graciously connected with us and allowed our trained dancers to perform.\nEditing the footage of four different casts (identifying each show as A\, B\, C\, or D)–each with two showings–we will present a total of eight showings in our six-day premiere running December 18-23\, at a drive-in location\, in the parking lot at 790 Bolsa Road.\n\nExplanation of Showings and A-B-C-D Casts…\nThere are four different casts (A\, B\, C\, D). Some dancers have parts that are in all four casts\, just two of the casts (AD or BC)\, or just one of the casts (A\, B\, C\, or D). Contact your dancer to know which cast he/she appears in\, to ensure you make reservations to attend the appropriate show! DESCRIPTION:30th Annual Lights On Celebration – Saturday and Sunday November 28 and 29 2020. \nThe Hollister Downtown Association would like to announce the annual parade will be held out at the Hollister Municipal Airport this year. We have created a Covid friendly solution to continue our tradition of bringing Santa to town to kick off the Holiday season. Santa will be flown in on Saturday November 28 to greet our residents at our Reverse Parade. This year we will hold a 2-night event to hopefully give everyone the opportunity to come out and say hello. This year’s Lights On Celebration parade theme is “Inside Santa’s Workshop.” \nWe will have exciting displays and lots of surprises provided by Ray Pulver of Upbeat Parade Productions. We welcome community groups\, businesses\, and performers to sign up to take part in this unique\, safe\, and family friendly free event. We will be encouraging the community to bring canned food or toys to donate which will be collected at the beginning of the parade. \nIn place of our traditional Downtown gathering\, we will have parade floats\, vehicles\, dancers\, and decorations stationary and the attendees will drive through the designated area in a loop around the airport. Families will be able to enjoy and experience safely form their personal vehicle and receive goodies at the end as they wave to Santa and Mrs. Claus. \nWe would still encourage everyone to Eat\, Play and Shop our Downtown merchants before or after the event. As in previous years\, we will have the Dec-A-Tree project on the Vets Plaza on display for your enjoyment. This online event will bring together tribal leaders\, fire researchers\, archaeologists\, and others for an investigation into Santa Cruz Mountains fire history\, prescribed burning\, and Indigenous fire stewardship. \nIn 2020\, catastrophic wildfires have impacted communities and ecosystems throughout California\, including in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Diablo Range within Amah Mutsun Tribal Band territory. For the Amah Mutsun\, these fires are understood as a symptom of an unhealthy relationship between people and the land\, and one that must be corrected. Today\, a long history of fire suppression in concert with climate change has resulted in an unsustainable relationship with wildfire\, increasing risks to lives\, homes and environments as time goes on. \nFor thousands of years\, Native peoples of California used prescribed burning to maintain healthy and productive landscapes. Both organizations are pleased to say that so many people were part of making this happen for our local businesses. All organizations worked together and were able to accomplish this project for the benefit of the whole community.

The Auction\, called the San Benito Gives Community Auction will take place on November 13 through the 17th.  Each participating nonprofit will secure amazing auction items to offer on their page at the Auction Website.  A buyer can register on the Auction Website at https://givesanbenito.org/ and then search for their favorite organization’s items or search by auction item type.  For example\, an interested buyer can search for all the great items CASA has procured\, or the buyer can search for “wine” throughout the entire website. \nDue to the COVID-19 pandemic\, the majority of our non-profits have had to cancel or scale back their traditional fundraisers.  This is an opportunity for people to support their favorite San Benito County organizations in a fun and healthy way.  The Community Foundation has purchased the software for this event and will provide all of the administrative services free of charge to the nonprofits. \nOrganizations interested in participating in this event should contact the Community Foundation for San Benito County: email at BWeatherly@givesanbenito.org\, or by calling 831-630-1924. \nDeadline for participation is August 28.
