SUMMARY:Professor Horton comes to Hollister
DESCRIPTION:Professor Randall Horton is the author of the national hit\, Hook: A Memoir. He will be coming to Hollister on Thursday March 24th to read for our town. Professor Horton is appearing on the 2nd longest running poetry radio show in America: Out of Our Minds on KKUP (91.5fm) which is hosted by local poet Rachelle Escamilla.  Escamilla's own book\, "Imaginary Animal" was published by Professor Horton through his press\, Willow Books (Detroit).  \nHere is a synopsis of the book:  \n"Hook: A Memoir\, is a gripping story of transformation. Without excuse or indulgence\, author and educator Randall Horton explored his downward spiral from unassuming Howard University undergraduate to homeless drug addict\, international cocaine smuggler\, and incarcerated felon — all before showing  us the redemptive role that writing and literature played in helping him reclaim his life. Hook explores race and social construction in America\, the forgotten lives within the prison industrial complex\, and the resilience of the human spirit."  \nIf you would like to order a copy of HOOK\, you can do so HERE or you can bring CASH on the night of the event\, there will be books at the event.  \nThis event is free and open to the public. So far\, Brewery 25 will be pouring samples for members of the public who are 21 or older and live music will open the night.   \nMARK YOUR CALENDARS!

SUMMARY:West side trails EA Pinnacles National Park Public meeting
DESCRIPTION:Pinnacles National Park has completed an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the construction of two new trails from the West Side Visitor Contact Station (VCS).  The EA is available for public review and comment until April 30\, 2016.  We welcome your input on the project and the environmental analysis.  All comments are due by April 30\, 2016.  \nA public meeting on the project will be held on Monday\, April 11\, 2016 at the Soledad City Council Chambers\, 248 Main Street\, Soledad\, CA. There will be an opportunity to talk informally with park staff from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.  A presentation will begin at 6:00 p.m.   \nThe proposed action is to construct an accessible trail at the VCS and construct a second trail that connects the VCS to trailheads located at the Chaparral Day Use Area.  The project is needed because there are currently no trails in the vicinity of the recently built VCS\, which detracts from the visitor experience and results in resource damage. Additionally\, there are limited opportunities for an accessible visitor experience.  Providing an accessible trail with informational panels will open up the visual\, cultural and natural resources to those unable to negotiate the more strenuous park trails.   \nYou may review and comment on the EA online at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/westsidetrails.   The attached newsletter provides a summary of the project\, and is also available on the website.  Hard copies of the EA are available for review at Soledad Branch Library\, King City Library\, and San Benito County Library and the park visitor centers.  You may also request a copy by calling (831) 389-4286.\nComments may also be submitted by mail to: National Park Service\, Attn: Karen Cantwell\, Pinnacles West Side Trail Project\, 333 Bush Street\, Suite 500\, San Francisco\, CA 94104-2828.\nFor more information\, please contact Karen Beppler-Dorn\, Superintendent at (831) 389-4486\, ext. 233 or karen_beppler-dorn@nps.gov; Debbie Simmons\, Facility Manager at (831) 389-4286 or at debbie_simmons@nps.gov; or view the project web site at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/westsidetrails.\nThank you\, \nPinnacles National Park
