Mexico de mis Amores: Benefit Art Auction

Mexican art treasures will be auctioned to benefit community organizations

SAN JUAN BAUTISTA– The public is invited to “Mexico de mis Amores,” an evening of art, food, and performances at Jardines de San Juan for Voices of Monterey Bay’s silent auction. Take home gorgeous art in support of independent journalism! More than 60 pieces that include striking Mexican pottery, Huichol yarn paintings, Alebrijes (brightly colored creatures made in Oaxaca), tapestries and a painting by Manuel Santana will be sold to the highest bidder.

The art collection was amassed by Lucinda Lee Herrett of Boulder Creek, California, an avid gardener, devoted pet owner, and Grateful Dead enthusiast. A world traveler and art collector, it was Ms. Herrett's wish that her estate benefit causes she supported. A painting by the late restaurateur and bon-vivant Manuel Santana was recently added to the auction lot. Santana lived in Aptos for more than 40 years and established Manuel’s in Aptos and Jardines de San Juan in San Juan Bautista.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Voices of Monterey Bay, a nonprofit online news magazine, the Watsonville Film Festival, and Tara Home, a Buddhist-based hospice service. There will be free appetizers and no-host bar.

Voices of Monterey Bay, launched in October 2017, is dedicated to providing insightful, quality journalism for the region, with in-depth stories on housing, environment, criminal justice, government transparency, education, and other important issues, and also strives to be bilingual and bicultural.

Watsonville Film Festival, a nonprofit multicultural film festival for the Monterey Bay, provides monthly screening of films as well as the annual film festival, with the next festival slated for March 28-31, 2019.

Tara Home is located in Soquel, offering a place to life and compassionate care for those who are near the end of life, with every effort made to meet the individual’s spiritual needs.
