San Benito Stage Company’s “Madagascar – A Musical Adventure Jr.” Opens Friday, May 3

Get ready to 'Move it, Move it!'

San Benito Stage Company is bringing the live-action version of the DreamWorks animated film, Madagascar, to the stage.

The show features 37 local children, ages 6 to 14-years old, and is directed by Ken Powell, vocal directed by Isabelle Menez and choreographed by Allison Barnes and assistant Bridget Murphy.

Similar to the popular movie its based after, the musical version follows Alex the Lion (Denzel Perez), Marty the Zebra (Derek Barnes II), Melman the Giraffe (Colin Ellis), Gloria the Hippo (Ashley Maupin), and a group of plotting penguins on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s (Abbey Alford) Madagascar.

Producers, Adriana Ferry and Denise McNett, are excited to share SBSC's first mobile show (since leaving the Granada Theatre in February) with the community. A special community show will be performed on Saturday, May 11 at 7pm.

"We'd like our community to know about our Community Show Night," says Ferry. "Adults or children can come in uniform, school or spirit gear, or SBSC camp T-shirts, and purchase a ticket for $10. Discounted tickets are limited to the first 100, so please come out and enjoy the show." The discounted price also applies to 4-H members, active or retired military, health care providers, and first responders attending in uniform.

“Madagascar – A Musical Adventure Jr.” runs from May 3 to May 18 at the Sacred Heart Parish School O'Reilly Gymnasium at 670 College St. in Hollister. Friday and Saturday evening shows are at 7pm; Sunday matinee shows start at 2pm.

Tickets are available for presale at Postal Graphics or by calling 831.636.0122. Purchase online at or at the door. Tickets are $17 for adults; $14 seniors/students; $55 Group 4-Pack (advanced purchase only).
