Fatal head-on collision on Highway 25

Collision happened south of San Felipe Road on June 9.

A Hollister woman was killed in a head-on collision on Highway 25 south of San Felipe Road on June 9 at approximately 5 p.m.

According to a recent California Highway Patrol (CHP) press release, a unit with the Hollister Police Department came upon the scene of the head-on traffic collision between a black 2006 Mercedes sedan and a black 2017 Nissan sedan.

The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the identity of the driver of the Nissan as Hollister resident Ashley Marie Santiago, 24, who sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes, who CHP identified as San Jose resident Ernesto Hernandez, 28, sustained significant injuries and was transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas. According to CHP, Hernandez is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the collision and was subsequently arrested.
