A new mural debuted Sunday, Aug. 5 on the 400 Block of downtown Hollister as an effort to promote art and get community members outside.
“The whole idea for the mural is to get people to come out and take a picture,” said Rolan Resendiz from ARTI-Culture.
Painted on the wall of The Vault, the new mural complements the pre-existing painting in shades of black, white, and gray.
Working collaboratively, Mayor Ignacio Velazquez commissioned the mural with the help of ARTI-Culture and local muralists Jeremy Perales and Philip Orabuena.
“I just always painted,” said Orabuena, a lifelong painter who was raised in Hollister. “I don’t recall starting, I just always did it.”
After joining the Marines, Orabuena discovered his knack for painting murals. He led the Veteran’s Park Hill mural effort last year.
