Abel will be remembered as an honest, harworking, responsible man who loved his family. Throughout his life, Abel shared his enjoyment of music, baseball and the countryside with friends and family. As a young man in the 1980s he pitched a championship season for his hometown team of El Apartadero Veracruz. Later as a local resident he pitched his Gilroy team to a first place finish in winter 2006. Music was close to Abel's heart and he sang in the style of Los Tigres del Norte. Abel was a campesino, a laborer. The beauty of the countryside always lured Abel outdoors. A native of Mexico, he walked in the hillsides of his birthplace for the last time during the first week of December 2016. Abel is survived by his wife, longtime Hollister resident, Kathy Martha Sanchez and his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews in Veracruz, Mexico. Many thanks to the Bay Area medical professionals at Kaiser Permanente Medical Group Oncology, the Palo Alto Medical Foundation and El Camino Hospital Radiation Oncology. Services have been held in El Apartadero, Actopan, Veracruz, Mexico.
