Passed Away On: 2021
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of George Elmer Abbe Jr, age 101, of Wentzville, Missouri and formerly of Mt. Carmel, Illinois. George passed away peacefully at the Park Lane Care and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his wife of 76 years, Joan D. Abbe, his son Pete Abbe, and daughter Sonna Bailey.
George was an affable man, with a dry sense of humor and wit. He had an easygoing personality that people were naturally drawn to. A consummate gentleman who was smart, kind and always patient, George exemplified a life well lived while enriching the lives of all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his daughter Linda Sealy and is survived by his wife Joan, son Pete, daughter Sonna, and son‐in‐law Mike Bailey; grandchildren Andrew, Christopher, Melissa, Heather, and Lindsey; great grandchildren Brody, Emma, Sydney, Alex, Samantha, and Charlene.
Born in San Juan Bautista, California, April 24, 1920. George served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a meteorologist. His first assignment was in Australia where he met his wife Joan. In 1955 he moved the family to Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and opened a new manufacturing plant for Pacific Press and Shear Corporation. From there he accepted a position with Moehlenpah Industries, Inc. (Hydro‐Air Engineering) in St. Louis, Mo, from which he retired.
George was always active, an avid sailor and distance runner up until his late 80’s. Recognized for his many contributions, George was most honored to be selected as a 1994 Olympic torch carrier in Lake Saint Louis.
