Passed Away On: 2017-10-22 00:00:00

Joseph Michael Racz, age 55, passed away Oct. 22 at his home in Hollister, California, after a courageous fight against cancer with his sisters by his side.  He grew up in Mentor, Ohio and graduated from Mentor High School in 1980.  He enlisted in the military after high school and proudly served as a Hospital Corpsman in the U.S. Navy for three years.  While serving, Joe saved a man’s life by giving him CPR after a tragic car accident.  If it were not for his heroic, quick actions, and presence of mind, the victim would not have survived.  Thus Joe received the Navel Accomodation Medal. After military service, Joe went on to earn his Associates Degree in Nursing, and became a Registered Nurse.  For his love of freedom and adventure, he worked as a travel nurse for several years as well as an emergency room nurse at multiple hospitals in the U.S.  His adventurous spirit and love of sunshine and beaches led him to California in 1997, to begin a new chapter in his life.  From then on, he left the arduous duties of hands-on nursing and became an in-house nurse case manager for a company that was contracted by Lockeed Martin.  Joe loved traveling, cooking (especially Thanksgiving), being with friends, and decorating for each of the holidays throughout the seasons.  He is survived by his sisters, Lauri (Judith) Racz, Michelle (Chris); niece Ashley; his favorite aunts Dottie Morgan and Ann Meade; uncles Art Morgan, Larry Lantz, and Paul Manley; many cousins; his second family in California, the Perez family; and many friends that he shared a lifetime of memories with.  He is preceded in death by his mother Doris Racz, father Joseph Racz, grandparents, and his partner of 16 years, Robert Perez.  Joe’s final wishes was to express his love to all his family and friends.

Contributions may be made to VNA/Hospice in care of the mortuary.
