Passed Away On: February 12, 2020

Lucy M. Sanchez of Hollister, California passed away at home on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, surrounded by her loved ones. She lived a wonderfully long life and while the family is saddened by her passing, she will live forever in their hearts. Lucy Leyva was born March 6, 1930, and was a life long resident of Hollister. She was married to Jesse Sanchez until his passing. She loving raised 4 children and was always involved in their many activities. Lucy worked for Tri-Valley Growers cannery for over 20 years until her retirement. Upon her retirement, she worked a number of years cooking for the priest at the Sacred Heart Rectory. She also enjoyed her time taking care of her grandchildren and would often have impromptu tea parties with them or show them how she would make some of her many special recipes. Lucy was an avid baseball fan and instilled the love of baseball in her family. Throughout her lifetime Lucy was involved in many organizations and memberships
Lucy will be missed by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor, and especially the love and pride she had in her family.
She was active in The Eagles Auxilliary, Sacred Heart/Saint Benedict Church, Catholic Ladies Aid Society, The Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and Parent Teachers Association and a lifetime resident of Hollister and a member of the Teamsters Union.
Lucy is survived by her children Patricia Sanchez Casarez, Jesse Sanchez, Jim Sanchez (Lorie), and Annie Sanchez (Dan). Her 11 grandchildren Daniel Casarez, Benjie Casarez (Terra), Justin Sanchez (Rachel), Jennifer Sanchez (Richard), Jarred Sanchez (Kaleena), Brianne Sanchez, Dane Sanchez, Ian Sanchez, Miles Sanchez (Danielle), Alison Stull (Andrew), Natalie Hatakeyama (Brent). She is also survived by 18 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Lucy is proceeded in death by her husband Jesse Sanchez, parents Frank and Eleanor Leyva, sister Frances Cantu, brothers Ralph and Mike Leyva, and son-in-law Daniel Stull.
The family would also like to thank the staff at Gilroy Satellite Dialysis for all the kindness and care for the past six years.

The Rosary will be on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. The Mass will be on Thursday, February 20, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Church. Interment will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery.

Donations are preferred to the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts.
