December 8, 1961 – June 10, 2023
Richard Herold Westphal, Jr., 61 years old, died unexpectantly on June 10, 2023 at his home in Hollister, CA. He was born on December 8, 1961, in Carson City, Nevada, the son of Richard H. Westphal and Glenell M. Fulton Westphal. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by his uncle Herb Meyer.
Rick loved his family and friends, but he also loved cars and fishing. He would attend every car show, rally and cruise he could find and would always enjoy talking about cars with other like-minded people. His fishing adventures were legendary and he regularly fished lakes, rivers and streams in California, Nevada and Oregon. Rick was also a big sports fan and on gameday he would root for his Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco Giants. He would call his friends and discuss the games frequently. Rick was kind, loving and extremely generous. He would always be there for anyone in need. He supported small businesses and friends who he knew were struggling. He loved his home in Hollister and especially loved his fiancé, Gina.
He made sure that the house was always maintained and looked nice. He was especially excited about gardening and enjoyed eating fresh vegetables and fruits grown from his garden. Rick liked going to antique shows, flea markets, swap meets and garage sales and would often find old fishing poles and car parts to bring home. He loved his dogs and always made sure they were well taken care of. Rick fought heart disease every day, getting up early to tinker with his cars. He never gave in to his disease and will be remembered as a strong person who was not defined by his illness, but rather by his will to live and enjoy life. Everyone who knew him has hundreds of stories to tell.
He will never be forgotten. Rick leaves behind his fiancé, Regina Hertzog, his children, Pamela Westphal Guizar and Richard H. Westphal III, his step-children Robyn Nicole Bean, Brianna Suniga (Hertzog), Thomas Barnhart Jr., and grandchildren Isabelle, Chloe, Bailey Jo, Roanin, Raymond, Ryder, Renee and Rollie. Rick’s passing is a tremendous loss to all who knew and loved him. He will be sorely missed.
