Passed Away On: December 3, 2019

Roland Lloyd Perkins transitioned to glory on December 3, 2019.  He was born June 26, 1928, in Danvers, Massachusetts to Alfred M. Perkins and Ruth A. Perkins.  He served in the Army during the Korean War along with his brothers, Lee and Don.  He married Marcia Sue Becker on October 3, 1952.  Roland worked for Doña Ana County as a sanitarian until they moved to California in 1968.  He continued his work as a sanitarian for Ventura County until he was transferred to San Benito County in 1969, where he worked until his retirement in 1988.

Roland was an accomplished musician and a part-time music teacher.  He was particularly fond of marches and was always willing to share his interests.  He was an active member of the Straw Hat Band and E. Clampus Vitus, as well as several other local bands and organizations throughout the years.  Roland was also an avid history buff and was also fondly known to many in Hollister as “The Penny Guy.”  He had an amazing sense of humor and was a practical joker.

Roland is preceded in death by his father, Alfred Perkins, his mother, Ruth Perkins, his oldest brother, Col. Donald R. Perkins, and wife Marcia Perkins.  He is survived by his only child, Robin Lynch (Ivan), his brother Lee Perkins (Carol-Lee), his nieces Karen Perkins Willis, Cynthia Perkins, Kathryn Holguin (Carlos), Kathleen Gillette (Kern), and Yvonne Perkins, and his nephews, Frank  Perkins (Theresa) and Mark Perkins (Basí).  He is also survived by his step-grandchildren Tiffany Macias (Kyle), Lydia Cabrera, Timothy Lynch, Theresa Plumb (Jason), and Daniel Flores, and many great-nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service with full military honors will be held on Thursday, December 12th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32052 W. McCabe Road, Santa Nella, California 95322
