Stanley Robert Smith was born in Santa Cruz, grew up in Aptos, and graduated from Watsonville High School. He graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Spanish, and later obtained a masters degree in Spanish.

Stanley had a career in engineering, working at Cedar Valley Shingle Systems. He is survived by his sister Carol Smith of Astoria, Oregon, his nephews Lucas Grams of Watsonville, Ryon McCullough of Anderson, Patrick McCullough of Sacramento, their families, and his close friends the Cortez family of Hollister. His parents Stanley and Carolyn Smith and his sister Susan Smith Barber died before him. He was connected through his maternal grandmother with the John Daubenbiss family, early Soquel pioneers.

He died in Hollister after a long illness.
