Passed Away On: May 11, 2022

Steven Edward Medina, 59, of Hollister, California passed away unexpectedly on May 11, 2022 from a heart attack.

Steve was born on March 10, 1963 in Hollister, California to Mike and Marie Medina, the middle of five children. He attended local schools and made lifelong friends. Steve was a talented young athlete and enjoyed playing sports – excelling at both wrestling and football.

Steve loved the outdoors and was a steward of nature, and especially enjoyed running the hills of Hollister and backpacking in the Sierras. He lived in Hollister most of his life (with stints in Morgan Hill) but loved to travel – especially taking road trips with family and friends. He made several cross-country trips and zig-zagged up and down the east coast.

He worked extremely hard and ran his own successful commercial landscaping company for many years. When he wasn’t working – which was rare – he was either traveling or rooting for the San Francisco 49ers. Steve was a modern-day renaissance man – he raised his own chickens and turkeys, built aquariums, trained dogs, grew ornamental trees and bushes, and could fix just about anything mechanical or with an internal combustion engine. He was a kind soul, selfless, driven and loved a spirited debate. He had a big heart – and an even bigger appetite!

He is predeceased by his parents, Mike and Marie Medina, brother Michael Medina, sister Suzie Whitecotton. Steve is survived by sister Mimi Guerrero (Michael), brother Mark (Deena), nephews Ted Whitecotton, Brian Guerrero, Jeremy Medina, Matthew Medina, Jake Medina and niece Julia Guerrero and partner Mary Russell.

He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, including dear friend Dean Machado. Steve never liked funerals, so the family is planning a small private ceremony in June.

Everyone who remembers Steve is asked to celebrate his life in their own way. Instead of sending flowers, do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness and think of Steve.
