Vaughn A. Franklin passed away in his home in Hollister on Jan. 19, 2017 surrounded by family.. He had just celebrated his 96th birthday January 15th. He was born in Durham, CA, one of five children born to Dora and Robert Earl Franklin. He came to Hollister in 1965. 
Vaughn was proceeded in death by his wives Bessie Franklin and Orlaine Tavares Franklin, a brother and three sisters. He enjoyed attending reunions of his Durham High School Class of 1938. There he rekindled a friendship with a classmate, Ethel Wells, who was his companion for four years. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Laurie and Jack Modine of Ft. Pierce, FL, Jim and Diane Tavares of Hollister and Ellen and Doug Brown of Sutherlin, OR. Grandchildren Deena Maderis-Medina of Hollister, Todd Maderis of San Anselmo, CA, Tiffany Doolitle of Chico, CA, Megan Taddei of Sutherlin OR, Matt Tavares of Hollister, Ryan McPhail and Kayla Brown of Eugene, OR. 
Great-grandchildren, Haley and Logan Taddei, Jake Medina, Max, Carmen and Rhett Maderis, Brody Brown, Delany, Eli and Emory Doolittle, Boston and Mila Tavares, Brandon Rodriquez and Blake Kostieley. 
Vaughn served in the Armed Forces from 1942-46 (WWII) and again from 1950-51 (Korea). He started his career with JC Penney as a salesman in Chico in 1946 and retired as manager of the Hollister store 41 years later. He transferred vehicles for Tiffany Motor Company until his 90th birthday. He was an avid golfer and a member of SIRS, Bolado Men's Club, BPOE 1436, and the Masonic Lodge #111 of Chico.

The family is honoring Vaughn's request to have no service.

Donations are preferred to Heartland Hospice, Monterey or Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation, Hollister.
