COMMENTARY: Luis Valdez is regarded as the father of Chicano theater in the United States. He is best known for his play "Zoot Suit," his movie "La Bamba," and his creation of El Teatro Campesino, located in San Juan Bautista. He supports Measure J, which bans fracking, cyclic steam injection, and matrix acidization to extract oil in San Benito County. In this video, Valdez speaks about the importance of water to sustain life, and how oil companies' quest for underground resources is affecting the inhabitants of this area, particularly the politically powerless. Valdez was speaking at the recent -- and first -- Latinos United Against Fracking Conference, held in San Juan Bautista in mid-October.
