This past season was a rebuilding season for the Gavilan College women’s basketball team. The team had a roster that was made up of seven freshmen, of which all saw major playing time throughout the season. However, among the youth movement on the team there were three sophomores who lead the way, showing the fresh faces how to cope with playing basketball at the next level. One of those sophomores was singled out by the coaches of the Coast Conference South Division and named first team All-Coast Conference- Jessica Curto.
The 5’9" sophomore liberal arts multiple subject major from Hollister and former Haybaler played in 20 of 22 games, and started in 19 of them, a recent press release noted. Curto averaged 9.4 points per game, which was good for second place on the team. She shot 68 percent from the field, while pulling in 6.8 rebounds per game which lead the team. The undersized center was often tasked with the defensive assignment of guarding the oppositions tallest player.
Curto’s season was highlighted by scoring in double digits in nine games. Against Ohlone College, she scored a career high 23 points, hitting on 10 of her 18 shots. Three weeks later against the same team, she dropped in 22 points, her second highest scoring game as a Ram. She is on track to graduate later this year and continues to narrow down her options on continuing her playing career at the four-year level.
