Friends Volunteer to Improve Our Library's Welfare

The Friends of the Library is hosting their largest annual fundraising event at San Juan Oaks.

This article was provided by Rachelle Escamilla for the Friends of the San Benito County Free Libaray.

As winter comes to a close, the Friends of the San Benito County Free Library bring out their decorations, ready the gift baskets and work together to create a community fundraiser for the library.  As part of their mission to "promote the welfare and growth by providing support to enrich the library's resources" the annual Tea & Treasures Fundraiser is their big event. Throughout the year the Friends will do small fundraisers; once a month they hold a book sale on a Saturday in the alley behind the Library, and their Vice President, Mary Schneider regularly scours donated books for editions that can be appraised and sold, but every March it is the Tea & Treasures Fundraiser that sustains the mission of the group. This group of volunteers are committed to their mission and committed to keeping the library's doors open.

When you support the Friends of the Library you are helping them to:

  • Partially fund Kids programs like book give -ways during the Holiday program, Kids in the Park, Story Time, Homework Club, and Kids Movie Days.
  • Get matching funds to help the us qualify for grants from Community Foundation and United Way to start the Teen Reach program with MakerSpace, SAT coaching and teen book clubs
  • Partially sponsor Adult Literacy programs
  • Buy additional equipment for the library (like re-upholstering worn out computer chairs in the adult computer lab).

If you would like to attend this year's fundraiser on Sunday, March 18th from 1-3 p.m. at San Juan Oaks, please contact the Friends through their website: or at, through their facebook: or give them a call at 831-205-1373.
