Police arrested two suspects on grand theft and conspiracy charges July 5 in Hollister after they stole thousands of dollars worth of pharmaceuticals throughout the Bay Area.

On the night of the event, the Hollister Police Department received a report that a theft had just occurred at the Safeway on Tres Pinos Road. Included within the report was a description of the two suspects, the vehicle, and direction of travel. Officer Masso was able to respond to the call after locating the suspected vehicle and two suspects, said a recent police press release.

Officer Masso was able to stop the suspected vehicle on Hillcrest Road and identify the two suspects as Melique Carter (19) and Annalisia Kapisi (18) from Vallejo, California. Within the vehicle, Officer Masso found several boxes of over-the-counter medications and other items.

During the course of subsequent investigation, it was revealed that items were stolen from not only Hollister, but also Prunedale and Half Moon Bay. The total amount of pharmaceuticals stolen exceeded $3,300, the press release said.

Carter and Kapisi were both arrested without incident and booked on charges of grand theft and conspiracy to commit a crime. Both are now on probation from San Mateo County for prior convictions.

The Hollister Police Department would like to thank the business employee who called to report the crime in progress and providing accurate and timely information. Partnerships between the community and police department are what ensure the safety of the public and solve crimes.
