Charrie M. Cheshire passed away in Hollister, California on August 31, 2021 at the age of 94 years.
Mom was born in a little house on the prairie (literally) in Plato, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1927. She grew ups working the wheat fields, driving the combine, playing ice hockey and speed skating. After graduation high school she attended the University of Saskatoon majoring in home economics. Upon completion of her degree, she moved to Toronto to work at Eaton’s as a dietitian. In 1953 she moved to Campbell, California with her family and attended San Jose State University to get her teaching credentials and started her career as a teacher in San Jose. She was attending a Saturday night dance when she was asked to dance by “the only man there taller that she was” and she married Richard Cheshire in 1957. They moved to Hollister in 1959, she raised her family, and she taught 3rd grade, 2nd grade and kindergarten at Fremont, R.O. Hardin and Sunnyslope schools. After retirement, she dedicated herself to her grandkids and her knitting. She was a 75-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star which she enjoyed immensely.
Charrie leaves behind her daughter Charrie, son Fred, son-in-law John, grandchildren Jerry and Alex, Anthony and Megan, Ray and Elaine, Amanda and Sean and her great-granddaughters Serenity, Charlotte as well as her newest great-granddaughter coming in October. She was also great grandma to Darian, Donovan, Kaylynn, Shiler, Liam and Karlie. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and by her loving caregivers Adriana Rojas and Darlene Monroe who became family. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Cheshire, son-in-law Ray Lopez and grandson Justin Lopez.
There will be a private cremation followed by private family inurnment at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 10 at 12 noon at Paine’s Restaurant.
