COMMUNITY OPINION: A citizen’s perspective on Measure G

Aromas resident Laura Stampleman shares thoughts on dealing with traffic and road issues.

As a resident of Aromas, I ask that community leaders, public safety officials, businesses and residents to vote yes on Measure G to fix our roads, increase safety and reduce traffic congestion in San Benito County.

San Benito County is in the midst of a transportation crisis which affects us every day. Roads all across the county are crumbling, and traffic is getting worse every day. Measure G will make critical repairs to local streets and roads in Hollister, San Juan Bautista, and the unincorporated areas of our county, including Aromas, Tres Pinos, Bitterwater, and Dunneville. Additionally, Measure G will make Route 25 a 4-lane expressway, significantly cutting down the time it takes for us to get where we need to go.

Measure G requires strict taxpayer safeguards so that we know the funds that are being raised stay local for San Benito County’s transportation infrastructure only. An independent Citizens' Oversight Committee, mandatory audits, and public reports are required. In addition, Measure G puts us in line with neighboring counties who approved transportation measures and qualifies us for state and federal matching funds, potentially doubling our investment.

Measure G is vital for the future of our county and all of our communities within it. We must take this chance to take the future of our transportation into our own hands.

Make the wise choice for our community. Vote Yes on Measure G!
