SUMMARY:Pottery Studio Open House
DESCRIPTION:Jane Rekedal will open her studio to the public as part of San Benito County’s Open Studios Art Tour on April 20-21. A potter for 49 years\, Rekedal produces functional stoneware and porcelain pieces as well as sculptures at her rural studio in Aromas. Inspiration often comes from the natural world as well as the ceramics of ancient cultures\, re-interpreted in contemporary ways. Her studio will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at 1560 Cannon Road\, Aromas. \nRekedal taught ceramics for 39 years at Gavilan College in Gilroy\, and currently serves as president of the local arts organization\, Aromas Hills Artisans\, playing an active role in developing public art projects. Recently she has been experimenting with a different kind of firing technique and developing new glazes\, including using some local native clay dug near her studio. \nThe San Benito County Open Studios Art Tour is sponsored by the San Benito County Arts Council\, and will span three weekends this year. April 13th features a Night Market at the Arts Council’s office in Hollister\, then the Aromas artists will show their work as part of the Art Tour on April 20-21\, and finally\, the Hollister artists will show their work on April 27-28.
