SUMMARY:Walk On The Wild Side - Free Event
DESCRIPTION:There are over 85 species of native plants on the wildfarmers wilderness preserve. With more species re emerging every year and blooming at odd intervals throughout the year. Ryan O’dell from the Central Coast Bureau of Land Management and Amelia Ryan from Pinnacles National Park are both specialists in the field of Central Coast native plants and rare native plants\, as well as habitat restoration\, etc. Come and enjoy a day in the sun and the unique opportunity to experience a day in the field with Amelia and Ryan. Bring your questions\, lunch\, something for hydration\, hat\, cameras\, and curiosity. Wildfarmers will supply coffee\, tea\, water\, snacks\, and wilderness. \n Amelia Ryan is the Vegetation Ecologist at Pinnacles National Park. She has worked as a botanist for state and national parks since 2000. Her areas of expertise include plant identification\, habitat restoration\, rare plants\, and the plants of grasslands and wetlands. \n  Ryan O’Dell is a Natural Resource Specialist (Botany/Soils/Paleontology) with the BLM Central Coast Field Office in Marina\, California. He primarily roams the Inner South Coast Range of southern San Benito County and western Fresno County and has documented the rare flora of this botanically-rich region for 10+ years. His primary subject of interest is edaphic endemism – plant species that only grow on unusual and extreme soil types – including serpentine (San Benito Mountain; Clear Creek Management Areaacidic\, saline marine shale (Moreno Shale; Panoche Hills\, Tumey Hills); high shrink- swell clay soils (Tumey Hills\, Ciervo Hills\, Griswold Hills); and San Joaquin Desert sand dunes (Monvero Dunes).
