On June 19, 2024, at approximately 3:55 a.m. California Highway Patrol (CHP) Hollister-Gilroy officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred on Shore Road, east of Lake Road.

Upon initial investigation, officers discovered the following information: Party #1 (John Doe, 20), was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry traveling eastbound on Shore Road at an unknown speed. Meanwhile, Party #2, was driving a Hyundai Accent westbound on Shore Road at 55 miles per hour.

This crash occurred when the Camry crossed over the double yellow lines into the westbound lane, directly into the path of the Accent, resulting in a head-on collision.

Emergency personnel promptly arrived at the scene and assessed the injuries of both parties involved. Doe was initially transported to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital with the intention of being flown to Natividad Hospital; however, he succumbed to injuries while on route to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital. Perry was transported to Natividad Hospital with minor injuries. Drugs and/or alcohol were not suspected to be factors in this crash.
