San Benito County citizens showed impressive strength and community spirit in this year’s shared fundraiser, “Silicon Valley Gives”.Â
On May 5, the Silicon Valley Community Foundation hosted a day of giving to benefit nonprofit organizations in our region, an event aimed at inspiring and uniting the community to support philanthropic causes.Â
Thanks to the generosity of 480 donors, Silicon Valley Gives was able to raise $56,808 for 31Â participating organizations from San Benito County. In addition, the Community Foundation was able to offer a special $50,000 1:1 match, from an anonymous donor, to nonprofits with endowment funds held by the Foundation; 23 non-profits chose to participate, and donations exceeded the match.
Silicon Valley Gives was a 24-hour online event connecting donors to charitable causes that they care about most, and encourages them to take action. The event encompassed nonprofits in San Benito, Santa Clara, San Mateo counties, and this year, donations exceeded $7.8 million.
Statistics offered by SV Gives, after the 24-hour event was completed, put the Community Foundation in sixth place for the most number of unique donors —Â 140 —Â for a medium-sized nonprofit.
The Community Foundation for San Benito County is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports philanthropic activities for the community.
