San Benito County Boy Scouts got together Oct. 26 for some good old-fashioned competition. Youth from local Boy Scout Troops collaborated together on a Pinewood Derby. A Pinewood Derby is a time-honored tradition in scouting where participants design and build their own miniature wooden race cars. Each car is crafted from a block of wood, wheels, and axles provided by the organizers, allowing for boundless creativity and innovation.

Cars were specially designed with creativity and of course, speed in mind.

Organizers asked that special thanks be given to Troop 2436 and Troop 436 for their help running the pinewood derby and Greenwood Ford for allowing the derby to be held at the dealership in Hollister.
Kristy Burchard, the San Benito District Committee chair explained that the committee oversees all scouting in the county. She said, “The committee hosted the event to raise money for scholarships, financial assistance to Cub Scout Packs (ages Kinder through 5th grade ) and Scouting America Troops(6th grade through 18 years old).”
The charter organization is the Hollister Exchange Club and two Hollister troops ran the event.
Greenwood Ford hosted the races. John Sanchez of Greenwood Ford told Burchard that he would like to see it held there again and he would love to challenge other local businesses to join Greenwood in sponsoring a car.
