Three Hollister High winter team sports qualified for the Central Coast Section playoffs slated to begin Feb. 20. In addition, 18 Baler wrestlers, who began the postseason on Feb. 14, qualified for the Masters Tournament on Feb. 21.

The girls basketball team, seeded #10, will host unseeded Santa Teresa High at 7 p.m. in the Mattson Gym in the Division 1 bracket. The winner will travel to Fremont High, seeded #7, on Feb. 21 for the second round of playoffs.

The Balers finished third in the Pacific Coast Athletic League Gabilan division with a 10-4 league record and 15-9 overall. Though the team finished the regular season with a loss, it won the previous five games.

The unseeded boys basketball team will play at Alisal High, seeded #12, at 7 p.m. on Feb. 20. The winner will travel to Evergreen Valley High, seeded #5, on Feb. 21. 

The boys won the Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission division with a 9-3 league record and 16-8 overall. The team lost their last regular season game, breaking a six-game winning streak.

Though the girls and boys soccer programs both finished third in the Gabilan division, only the girls qualified for the postseason. The girls’ record was 8-3-1 in league play and 12-4-1 overall. The boys finished with a 4-5-3 league record and 5-8-6 overall. 

The girls were seeded #2 in division 4 and will host Gunn High, seeded #7, at 11 a.m. on Feb. 21.

Wrestlers began playoff matches at the CCS Section Regional Championships at Watsonville on Feb. 14 in which seven boys and 11 girls qualified for the Masters Tournament. The top four placers in each weight division at the Masters Tournament qualify for the state championships scheduled starting Feb. 26 in Bakersfield. 

Boys head coach Steven Salcedo said there were a number of wrestlers that had a “good chance” of qualifying for states including Stephen (Cole) Seymour, Michael Hubbard and Leo Lucatero for the boys and Elena Vasquez, Eliana Salcedo, Mia Fausto and Gisselle Ruiz-Boytes for the girls.

Boys

Daniel Moreno placed 5th at 115 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Carson Quesada placed 8th at 120 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Lukas Lucatero placed 7th at 126 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Tanner Frisco placed 6th at 132 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Leo Lucatero placed 5th at 138 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Michael Hubbard placed 5th at 157 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Stephen Seymour placed 2nd at 165 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Girls

Lesley Martinez-Mora placed 4th at 100 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Devani Mendoza placed 6th at 105 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Alexis Bozarth placed 8th at 110 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Eliana Salcedo placed 3rd at 115 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Roxana Gomez placed 8th at 120 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Elena Vasquez placed 2nd at 125 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Madison Harmon placed 5th at 130 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Lilah Olivares-Serrano placed 4th at 135 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Victoria Zubiate-Gutierrez placed 5th at 140 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Gisselle Ruiz-Boytes placed 4th at 145 lbs. in the Regional Championships.

Mia Fausto placed 3rd at 155 lbs. in the Regional Championships.
