Hazel Hawkins Hospital nurses on behalf of the hospital’s Employee Morale Committee have established an educational scholarship in memory of Ismael Hernandez, who recently passed away and was the husband of Board Member, Jeri Hernandez.
Diane Beck, Med/Surg RN and senior CNA Union representative, accompanied by hospital nurses, presented a plaque to Mrs. Hernandez at the May 25 oard meeting to signify the creation of the scholarship. Hernandez has been an ardent supporter of the HHH nursing staff.
Beck stated, “The scholarship was created as an endeavor of the newly formed Employee Morale Committee to do something to honor Mrs. Hernandez on behalf of the employees. The committee was created for employees to have an avenue to give back to the hospital and their fellow employees." The scholarship will be funded by employee and community donations and will be disbursed through the Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation.
Jeri Hernandez tearfully accepted the plaque and said she was extremely touched by the gesture from the employees and stated that she was grateful for the outpouring of support for her family from the hospital and the members of the community.
