As Assistant County Auditor-Controller, I have had the privilege of working in the San Benito County Auditor’s Office for over 16 years. Throughout that time, I have seen firsthand the depth of experience, integrity, and steady leadership Joe Paul Gonzalez brings to his role as County Auditor. His commitment to enforcing accountability and upholding the highest standards of public service has strengthened the office and the level of service provided to the organization and the community.

Equally important, he has fostered a positive and professional workplace culture, one that values collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement. Under his leadership, our office has not only met its responsibilities but consistently ensured that the duties and obligations of the County Auditor’s Office are carried out with diligence and care. This includes maintaining accurate financial reporting, safeguarding public funds, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and providing clear, timely information to support sound decision-making across county departments. I support Joe Paul Gonzalez in his re-election and continued service as County Auditor-Controller. – Leann Godinez

I’ve worked for San Benito County for 28 years, including 18 years in the Auditor-Controller’s Office, starting as an Account Technician with a primary focus on property taxes. Over the years, I’ve grown into my role as an Accountant II, continuing to specialize in property tax operations. This work is highly specialized and requires both experience and a strong understanding of the processes involved. I take pride in maintaining accuracy and accountability in managing public funds and being part of a supportive team. Working under the leadership of Joe Paul Gonzalez has been a key part of my experience—his knowledge, leadership, and commitment to strong financial practices have helped create a reliable and well-structured work environment.

As a San Benito County employee with 17 years of service; 12 of those years working directly with Joe Paul Gonzalez in the Auditor’s Office, I have seen how leadership affects daily operations, especially in payroll and financial processes. Under his leadership, the office has remained steady and reliable, ensuring key functions are handled properly. Joe Paul has been serving this community for two decades with a steadfast commitment to public service. I’ve worked in the Auditor’s office for 10 years and have seen first hand the dedication and experience he brings to the job every day. He remains unbiased despite strong outside pressure, which is a critical aspect of the Auditor-Controller position remaining independent. Joe Paul has knowledge that greatly benefits the County of San Benito and extensive experience navigating internal controls, compliance requirements for laws & regulations, property tax administration and governmental financial reporting. This position requires specialized skill sets to be successful. It requires experience in governmental accounting and an understanding of how the County of San Benito operates, the role & responsibilities of the Auditor’s office and the roles and responsibilities of other County departments. This is a very complex job that cannot be done by just anyone and we need someone with the appropriate experience and specific knowledge to perform those responsibilities. That person is, and continues to be, Joe Paul Gonzalez. He leads with professionalism, experience, accountability, integrity and transparency.
