A memorial and GoFundMe account have been set up for a 42-year-old Hollister man found dead in the trunk of a white Tesla off Hwy 152 on Pacheco Pass near the San Luis Reservoir. The California Highway Patrol is treating it as a homicide.
The deceased was identified as Javier Becerril Jr., according to a news release from the California Highway Patrol’s Central Division.
The body was initially found on July 9 and by July 15 the CHP had officially verified his identity and that he was from Hollister.
Becerril Jr, was a DoorDash driver in Hollister and was reported missing by his family prior to his body being found.
A small memorial was set up at Safeway on Tres Pinos Drive by fellow DoorDash drivers who reportedly say he made regular deliveries from there.
Becerril Jr.’s family also set up a GoFundMe to raise money for funeral costs and to support his children. They have raised more than $14,000.
The CHP Merced Communications Center received a report at 12:19 p.m. on July 9 of a “missing person believed to be on State Route 152 east of Lower Cottonwood Route,” according to the news release.
CHP Los Baños officers and Merced County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the location where they found Becerril Jr.’s body in the trunk of the Tesla.
