On Saturday, July 8, at about 7:30 p.m. Hollister Police Officer Tong arrested 37-year-old Hollister resident Pedro Ramirez for carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, resisting arrest, evading, felon in possession of a firearm and driving under the influence.

According to a Hollister Police Department press release, the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the area of Union Road and Cienega Road for a report of a person shooting a handgun from a black, lowered pickup. As dispatch advised of this call, Tong immediately located the vehicle on Memorial Drive and attempted a traffic stop of the truck, which failed to yield. Police say several passengers fled the truck in the area of Memorial Drive and Sunnyslope Road, but the truck continued.

Tong stayed behind the truck, while Ramirez, the truck’s driver, stopped near Ladd Lane School and allegedly fled the truck on foot, the report said. A short foot pursuit ensued and Ramirez was apprehended by Tong after a brief struggle.

The HPD said Tong located a loaded semi-automatic handgun on the suspect’s person. Ramirez was booked at San Benito County Jail on the listed charges.
