Incoming seniors painted their own parking lot in front of the softball field at Hollister High School for the 2026-27 school year earlier this week.
Every new school year, the students come out and paint their own parking spaces before ther start of school. Classes start on Aug. 6 this year.
Hollister High School student Andrew Parra said he thinks the tradition makes it real that this is his and his classmates’ senior year, which he said makes it feel surreal because it reminds him that he really is a senior this year.
“I really liked the ones like track and field,” Parra said. “And the ones from last year and the Minion ones, too, because multiple people did their themes together.”
He said he was drawing the Spider-Man logo, but not the whole superhero because it’s too hard.
Hollister High School student Astra Walters said she loves the Minion one and thinks it stands out quite a bit because of its brighter colors. Walters said she likes the big chunks of light colors and dark colors, and that’s pretty cool.
“I’m making the Coraline tunnel and the hill from the Nightmare Before Christmas,” Walters said. “It’s my favorite movie. I love sports paintings that are pretty cool, like for athletes and the sports that they play.”
