Funeral service will be held at Grunnagle-Ament Funeral Home on September 14th, 2026 at 8:30 am with St Benedict Catholic Church officiating mass.
Burial will follow at Jacona’s Municipal cemetery, In Mexico, on September 17th, 2026, as it was Nena’s wishes to rest where she was born.
Maria-Elena (Nena) was born in Jacona Michoacán, Mexico, to Luis Caballero and Delfina Avila on February 22, 1968.
In 1995, Nena left her small town in Mexico and everything she knew to come to the United States so her future children could have a better life. She then had her first born daughter, Delfina. Then, a couple years later, she had her son, Martin.
She sacrificed her rest so her children could have stability and opportunity. Nena’s hands never saw rest.
Nena’s migration was a gift of hope and example that a better life is worth every sacrifice. She was the perfect example of ” The American Dream”. She worked as a farm laborer for Gibson Farms Inc for many years and continued her job as a farm laborer for several other companies as well. She made friendships that lasted a lifetime. She touched a lot of people’s lives with her love and happiness. She was the life of the party.
Nena will be survived by her husband, Martin of Hollister, her children Delfina and Martin; her brothers, nephews, family members and friends.
