One week after Hollister High football coach Thomas Sullivan was placed on leave amid a district investigation into the football program, Thursday night’s home varsity football game against Alisal High School has been forfeited.

Less than four hours before the Balers were scheduled to play the Trojans at 7:30 p.m., the district announced via the high school’s Instagram and Facebook accounts that Hollister had forfeited the game.

According to the statement, the game was forfeited “due to an ongoing review of a recent report regarding team activities.”

San Benito High School District Communications Officer Adam Breen confirmed the social media posts and said he could only share what was included in the statement.

“At this point, that is all we can share,” Breen said.

Breen said students, families and staff were notified of the varsity game cancellation through ParentSquare, a communication platform used by K-12 schools and districts.

The Balers are 3-0 this season.

The junior varsity matchup remains scheduled. The Baler girls flag football team also is scheduled to play the Trojans Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m. at Andy Hardin Stadium.
