The City of San Juan Bautista is asking residents and businesses to voluntarily conserve water while the City’s primary water production well, Well 5, remains out of service for inspection and repair.
Although Well 5 is offline, the City’s water system remains operational and water service is currently uninterrupted. Public Works staff are actively addressing the issue and closely monitoring water production, demand, and system storage.
“We are taking a precautionary approach while Well 5 is out of service,” said City Manager Ashley Collick. “Water service remains uninterrupted, but we are asking our residents and businesses to help us reduce unnecessary demand and preserve adequate water storage, particularly for fire protection, until the well can be safely returned to service.”
The City is asking residents and businesses to reduce non-essential water use by:
- Limiting outdoor irrigation and lawn watering;
- Avoiding washing vehicles unless necessary;
- Avoiding hosing down driveways, sidewalks, and other paved surfaces;
- Operating dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads; and
- Promptly repairing leaks.
At this time, the City is not experiencing a water shortage or water quality issue. The conservation request is a precautionary measure while Well 5 remains offline.
The timeline for restoring Well 5 has not yet been determined. City staff and the City’s well service contractor are working to complete the necessary repairs and return the well to service as quickly as possible.
The City will continue to monitor system conditions closely and provide updates as additional information becomes available.
The City appreciates the community’s cooperation in conserving water during this temporary situation.
