Bolado Park was the place to be for young horsemen and women Sept. 23. Young riders from different regions of the state packed up their tack and traveled with their familes to San Benito County’s pre-fair Junior Rodeo. The day was packed with all sorts of Western horsemanship events from stick horse to competitions that were adult skill level.

“It’s a chance for them to do something wholesome and we get to spend time with good friends,” said parent Tyler Holzum. He and his wife Jennifer were up at 6:00am making sure their son Gage had a hearty meal before he was in the saddle.

Hauling horses and family members is just part of the deal for many of the Jr. Rodeo families. It is a social event for parents and like many traveling sports, families get to know each other and look forward to seeing each other at the next event.
